An Italian MX-5 killer? The Fiat Barchetta Story

Fiat made decent little cars in the 1980s, but with cheap Japanese imports and German competition nipping at their heels, the company planned not one but two sports cars to get them noticed. And so, in 1995 the Fiat Barchetta was born.
How did the Barchetta stack up against its major competitor, the MX-5, why didn’t it make it to North America, and was it popular?
