The OctoPop research team, led by Dr. O’Brient, contributed to ongoing monitoring of Octopus insularis populations, ecology and behavior around South Caicos. Through visual censuses conducted by snorkelers, analysis of remotely-recorded video and study of prey remains, students determined the population density, diet and skin patterns utilized by octopuses inhabiting 5 shallow water sites. This research contributes to our understanding of the role this important mesopredator plays in the marine food webs of South Caicos.
