KCSE 2019 ENGLISH PAPER ONE REVISION
In this video, I have handled the question tested on Oral songs in the KCSE 2019 at the oral skills question. The questions I have tackled include;
(1) Identify and illustrate features that make the above genre an oral song
i Use of a moral lesson
ii Conversation /Dialogue- Between the old man and the young man
iii Direct Address- Why don't you walk straight like me?
iv Use of imagery, i.e, personification and metaphors
(2) How would you say line 5 of the oral song?
"Why don't you walk straight like me?"
~ I would stress walk, straight to highlight the young man's conviction of arrogance.
~ I would wear a proud and contemptuous look to show how the young man despises the old man
~ I would employ expansive gestures trying to walk straight
~ I would employ a contemptuous tone.
(3) Which words would you stress in line 2 of the last stanza.
"And he slowly bowed his head"
~ I would stress 'slowly ', 'bowed', 'head' to show how ashamed and embarrassed the young man was after the satirical metaphor used on him by the old man.
N/B; Remember that the rubrics 'I would....' must appear in your answer as it highlights the personal involvement. Its absence denies you the Mark's notwithstanding you giving the correct responses.
