Listen: Writing the South Valley | ¡COLORES! NMPBS

Featured is a diverse group of teen poets from Albuquerque’s Rio Grande High in the South Valley. Filmed entirely on location, each of the eight young poets read an original poem and each reading is its own short film. The honesty and eloquence of these young poets is remarkable! They share their dreams, fears, humor and the reality of their day-to-day lives. Some of this is funny, some sobering, considering the life experience they have at such a young age. These are average kids and they are not. They have something that makes them stand out. They come from different walks of life and cultures, yet they all come from the same place through poetry. They are all searching for the same thing -- to be heard. Funded in part by the Witter-Bynner Foundation for Poetry.
