These freestyles be grounding me through all the highs and lows of pursuing a music career.

The Drake / Kendrick Lamar beef was very hard for me to digest. Here were two guys I'd looked up to since I was a kid going at each other. For a while I couldn't listen to Drake and I had to reconsider my fandom of him.

I remember when a friend of mine first showed me this record, $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U, and it blew me away. It sounds like the best of Drake, but new and all modernized, with some of the cleanest engineering I've heard from their camp. These songs are deeply melodic and lush to my ears.

To me, this record was the perfect comeback - like Drake & PND were like, don't forget we still them bumpin ass R&B niggas from Toronto. Nobody does THIS like WE do this, that's what this record says to me. This is all significant because for long-time fans of theirs like me, we know their sound from the early 2010's, and how those first albums/projects were groundbreaking because they had their own sound. They doubled down and I love that.

In terms of their personal lives, judge not lest you be judged. And I gotta say, I can respect the fact that they doubled down on themselves, because f*** what people think of you. Honestly, we get it wrong a lot of the time anyway. I've always felt like it's none of my business. At the end of the day, these songs do what they supposed to do - catch my ear and make me listen over and over again. There's a few more songs from this album I'm working on covering.

The music has gotta bump,
