$ome $exy $ongs 4 U became my safety album this summer. I don't know why or how I feel like Drake and PND distilled so many complex emotions in this record, and the production gives them a rightful home. Because of the nature of my art and my heart I feel like I can reach inside these songs and capture their essence, because I don't yet have a team to help me make music - I just have my voice and my musicianship. I'm fortunate to have found time to play this Steinway at Ardent Studios.

I can think of a lot of advice people gave me at one time or another to create success in my music career. The only piece that's sticking out right now is "keep going."

I sometimes bear a burden of guilt for the lack of consistency I've given to my craft while trying to survive in Memphis. I recorded this video in July, and it was in August I had some real breakthroughs - I realized I'd started relying on recordings like these to help memorize my arrangements as opposed to rehearsing them a hundred times like I did back in the day. The reason I can remember songs I learned 15 years ago is because I practiced them a thousand times. The reason I forget a lot of music is because I don't practice it enough.

What I've developed now is an active process where I can correct automatically, because I allow myself to be conscious of my wins and mistakes. Shortest distance between A and B. I still feel like I've got a long way to go, but thank God for how far I've come.
