Splitting a Satellite TV Signal to Multiple Receivers - Free Satellite TV

Simply using a splitter to split an FTA satellite signal isn’t such a simple option. The main reason is that free satellite TV channels are linear polarized, meaning that signal wavelengths are oriented in either vertical (V) or horizontal (H) linear wavelengths. This means your receiver and LNB have to switch between the two polarities because only one type of polarity can be sent down to the receiver at a time. This means using a splitter to split a signal off a single LNB to 2 receivers will result in one receiver becoming the control receiver taking care of the polarity switching, while the other receiver becomes a follower receiver, capable of only receiving channels that are on the same polarity as the control receiver (H or V). Using a splitter might be a viable option for you if you can live with only receiving one polarity of channels or the other on a second receiver. Other options that will give each receiver full independent control of all channels include using a multi-output LNB, or a multi-switch, which must be used in conjunction with a dual-output LNB.
