In this video, I cut open a failed DEF tank to find the real cause of fault code P203B31 – “The AdBlue fill level sensor has a malfunction.”
The tank vent was clogged internally, causing the DEF tank to collapse and prevent the ultrasonic level sensor from working correctly. After opening the tank, I found a plastic diaphragm / one-way valve inside the vent that had stuck closed.
This video shows what’s inside the DEF tank, how a clogged vent can collapse the tank, and why this leads to false fill-level sensor faults on Sprinter vans.
