The Fullerton Loop, located near Bragg Creek, Alberta, is a fantastic 4 season hiking destination. It’s the perfect family trail with a wide path, and no bikes or horses to worry about. Enjoy a gentle ascent and descent as you round a scenic forest path with several viewpoints overlooking the Elbow Valley. During winter, the trail conditions can vary, so it's recommended to bring micro spikes or crampons for icy patches. Canadian Rockies Hike.
March 30/2025 Spring Hike
The parking lot is located on the North side of Highway 66 as you travel West. It is directly across from the Allen Bill Day Use area. The trail starts off in the trees and almost immediately you will have a little elevation gain. Once you top the hill the trail will now level out. Soon the trail will open up in front of you. The Fullerton Loop Viewpoint will be on your left and the Elbow River will be on your right. Just under 1k the trail will take you back into the trees, and you will start to descend. After you cross the bridge at the bottom you will want to take the trail on your left. You will cross numerous little bridges along the trail. Just over 1.3k you reach another intersection. This is where the loop begins. If you go left the trail will take you directly up to the viewpoint. If you choose to go this way the trail is a lot steeper. We opted to go straight and do the loop counterclockwise. As you proceed, the trail will have little sections going up and down. There also seemed to be more snow on the trees which looked truly magical. As you climb the trail will open up and you will have a great view looking back behind you. Then back into the trees you go. Now you will have a glorious little portion surrounded by trees with snow on them. Just over 3.4k you will be at maximum elevation, and you will now take the left trail. Soon you will start to get views on your right. Just under 4.5k you will arrive at the viewpoint. Here you will have a stunning view looking down at the Elbow Valley below you. We enjoyed our lunch here and I enjoyed my beer here. As we descended, we had a constant view on our right. Eventually the trail took us back into the trees. Just under 5.5k we completed the loop. It was just over 1k back to the car.
This was an awesome little hike and relatively easy. We were treated to a Bluebird Day, and fresh fallen snow from the day before. This is a great hike for the whole family, and I highly recommend it.
