So, the bits of foam flying from the vents was issue that I had for years. But I never knew where it was from (and never bothered to do a quick google, which would show many threads quickly pointing to the culprit); but as it wasn't affecting anything at first, I left it be. At last, all of the foam gave recently and suddenly I had no AC (people usually report loss of heat, but I guess it depends on which flap gets worn out first, as there is two of them).
I've quickly discovered this is a common issue and there are two main ways to fix it.
1) Quick fix - cover the holes that used to be covered by foam with some sort of speed tape. This can be done with taking off only the bits of center console assuming skinny hands.
2) Proper fix - take out the dash, the whole heat exchanger/blender and re-apply some sort of foam/covering for 100% seal of the flaps.
As I don't feel like taking out the dash just yet, I opted for option one, however I didn't know what settings put those flaps in what position so I took this video for myself. Maybe it will help someone else as well.
