Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra (1972)

Popol Vuh's "Hosianna Mantra" speaks to both 1970s listeners and today's seekers of a transcendent musical experience. If today we don't want to consider it an essential album, steeped in our obsessive materiality, we can at least remember it and listen to it again not only as a mystical work that blends Christian and Hindu spirituality, but also as a precursor to the then-nascent world music and New Age, anticipating the fusion of cultures and religions through sound.

It then builds into a vibrant ecstasy, as Djong Jun's celestial voice pours out like a passionate prayer, and the electric guitar weaves strands of psychedelic sounds that envelop the soul in an ascetic embrace. The oboe, like a breath of ancient wind, mixes with the psalmody of sacred hymns, transporting the listener into a wave of deep meditation, an imperturbable journey into the heart of spirituality, difficult to break or awaken from this sweet trance.
