In this video, Dr. May explains The Love and Sexuality Style of Developmental Trauma. People who develop this style grew up with caregivers who made them feel shame about their emerging sexuality. As a result, they adapted by splitting love from sexuality rather than integrating them.
Toward the end, several healing strategies and treatment suggestions are offered.
The concept of the Five Survival Styles was introduced by Dr. Laurence Heller in his book Healing Developmental Trauma, and forms a central part of the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM®).
