SEO Demystified: Lesson 3 - What Is Indexation?

This lesson explores one of the most important concepts in SEO: indexation. Once Google has discovered a page, the real question is whether that page will be stored in the index and made eligible to appear in search results. If a page is not indexed, it cannot be found. No amount of copywriting or design will change that. In this video, we take the idea of indexation from something abstract and turn it into something clear and practical.

You will learn what indexation actually is and what happens when Google processes a page. We look at how Google evaluates content during indexing and why discovery alone is not enough. You will see how to check indexation using Google Search Console, the site: search operator and the URL Inspection tool, along with what these tools can and cannot tell you in real situations.

We then move to mobile first indexing and why the mobile version of your site is now the primary reference point for Google. You will understand why missing content on mobile can quietly hold back performance.

Finally, we look at technical causes of indexing problems. You will see how robots.txt and meta noindex tags can prevent pages from entering the index, sometimes by mistake during development. You will also hear why canonical tags matter, with a dedicated lesson on that coming later in the course.

By the end, you will have a grounded understanding of indexation and the confidence to diagnose common issues that stop pages from appearing in search.
