This is a set of 3 recordings of Tsunglin Wu's 120 cm "Tai Lai" gong. The tai lai gong is similar to what people in the West conventionally refer to as a "chau" gong, or tam-tam. However, Wu's gongs are not casted and they are made entirely of brass. We have recorded this gong at three different distances: 1 meter, 5 meters, and 15 meters. A matched pair of large diaphragm sE4400 condenser microphones were used to record this instrument. The photo shows Wu in front of his tai lai gong.
Wu's instruments are made of brass, and are not casted. He hammers and shapes all of his instruments without any melting: anyone in the percussion and/or gong world knows that this is not a standard practice. Wu's instruments are all one-of-a-kind. for more information, please see his website at https://goit.com.tw/bronze
