Mercyland - Amerigod

“Amerigod” is the second single from Mercyland’s upcoming self-titled album.
David Barbe shares the story behind the song:
“In 1986, I had this job driving a delivery truck for a microfilm service. One Monday, this girl that worked there came in and told me that she had gone to some fundamentalist church the day before, complete with snake handling and speaking in tongues, and after one day was a true believer and converted to whatever religion it was. It didn’t take long to turn that story into the basis of ‘Amerigod.’”

The treasured yet long-unreleased archive of songs produced by David Barbe of Mercyland and the legendary band Sugar, now reuniting to wide acclaim, recorded from 1985 to 1987. The collection includes eleven tracks, such as “Amerigod,” “Black on Black on Black,” and “Western Guns.” It showcases raw, powerful post-punk energy from the Athens underground scene, fully remastered and restored from the original tapes. This release is dedicated to fans who have patiently awaited these gems, now presented with enhanced sonic clarity and curated passion to tell the story of this overlooked post-punk trio.
