The Chennai Shatabdi takes 5 hours to cover the 360-odd km to Chennai with two intermediate halts.
The Hubballi Jan Shatabdi covers this distance 15 minutes faster, with 7 intermediate halts. Same distance, more halts, half the price. That's the Jan Shatabdi for you!
This train was the undisputed king of this route until the Vande Bharat came along, but it maintains its swagger to this day. It doesn't just accelerate out of a station; it takes off. The real test of a WAP-7's mainline capabilities.
This is the first video in my Belagavi series, and to ensure I didn't reach there feeling all tired, I stayed inside the hand-me-down Shatabdi coach (which still had Canara Bank ads in Tamil, and was impeccably maintained) and enjoyed the views from the window. The civil crowd and amazing food were additional bonuses. The next few videos will have the fresh air that my videos generally have.
This journey began on a random Sunday morning at 6AM. The Shatabdi and the Jan Shatabdi left KSR Bengaluru simultaneously in different directions, and I was inside this train for the first time.
We reached Yesvantpur with a marginal delay, as the Vande Bharat was right in front of us. But when it sped away after that, every other station was reached before schedule, and with great margins too.
We ended up maintaining this punctuality till the very end, when we reached SSS Hubballi 25 minutes before our scheduled time. This train can easily be sped up further. Even a 1-hour speed up is doable in my opinion, given how fast it is.
And that concluded an amazing journey in SWR's fastest semi-premium train. One that I will always cherish and look forward to doing again!
Thanks for watching!
