I bought the G0761 milling machine from Grizzly back in the summer of 2015. It has a sturdy square column for large adjustments to the Z axis and plenty of quill travel for most jobs. I thought I could do with just the hand crank but I was so wrong. Luckily I keep (hoard) a large box of motors and controllers nearby at all times.
I also happened to have a worm gear and AC induction motor. Once this first version was assembled I discovered the motor was grossly underpowered. The treadmill motor is much better suited.
My advice - If you are considering a heavy benchtop machine, GET A MOTORIZED Z AXIS!
What do you think? Are you tired of the hand crank on your machine? Thinking about purchasing a milling machine? Leave a comment below.
The audio is a bit rough on this one. Mic placement...
