The Higher Land - a solo hike through Padjelanta

Solo hiking 120km through the beauty of Padjelanta - the higher land. Almost exactly 10 years after my first steps in the outdoors back in New Zealand, much has changed. Not just the age, more a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis five years ago making everything a bit diffferent. Wondering whether I could still do it, I returned to the trail in the high arctic - hiking alone from Norway to Sweden with everything I need on my back. And this 7-day trek became more than just another hike: it was a reflection on solitude, on myself, and on the journey that brought me here.

In summer 2024, I left the Lofoten Islands to hike along parts of the Nordkalottleden for 7 days - crossing from Norway into Sweden through vast wilderness landscapes, past the glaciers and rugged mountains of Sulitjelma until the lush and remote valleys in Ritsem. Always with me - my trusty camera and tripod to capture this adventure! Hike with me on my journey from the coastal forests of Northern Norway to the open highlands of Padjelanta, Sarek and Stora Sjöfället Nationalparks in the heart of Swedish Lapland.
