Kochi Water Metro
കൊച്ചി മെട്രോയുടെ അനുബന്ധ ജലപാത പദ്ധതിയാണ് കൊച്ചി വാട്ടർ മെട്രോ. കൊച്ചി മെട്രോ റെയിൽ ലിമിറ്റഡ് ആണ് ഈ ആശയത്തിന് പിന്നിൽ. കൊച്ചി മെട്രോയുടെ ഫീഡർ സർവീസ് ആയി ഇതിനെ കണക്കാക്കുന്നു. 2022 ഏപ്രിൽ 26ന് പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിച്ചു . ആധുനിക സൗകര്യങ്ങളോടുകൂടിയ ബോട്ടുകളാണ് ഇതിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിന് നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. 50 മുതൽ നൂറു വരെ യാത്രക്കാരെ വഹിക്കാവുന്ന ബോട്ടുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിനാണ് ഉദേശിക്കുന്നത്. 8 നോട്ടിക്കൽ മൈൽ വേഗതയിൽ ഇവ യാത്ര ചെയ്യും. ആധുനിക സുരക്ഷാ സൗകര്യങ്ങളും വാർത്താവിനിമയ വാർത്താവിനിമയ ഉപകരണങ്ങളും ഘടിപ്പിച്ച ബോട്ടുകളാണ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. ഒരേ ടിക്കറ്റ് ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കൊച്ചി മെട്രോയിലും വാട്ടർ മെട്രോയിലും സഞ്ചരിക്കത്തക്കവിധത്തിൽ സംവിധാനം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും. വാട്ടർ മെട്രോയുടെ ഒന്നാംഘട്ടത്തിൽ 43 ബോട്ടുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് 7 റൂട്ടുകളിൽ യാത്ര സൗകര്യമൊരുക്കും. രണ്ടാംഘട്ടത്തിൽ പ്രവർത്തനം പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുമ്പോൾ 78 ബോട്ടുകളിലായി 16 പാതകളിൽ യാത്രാസൗകര്യം ഒരുക്കാനാണ് ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നത്. ടൂറിസം മേഖലയിൽ വൻ കുതിപ്പിന് വാട്ടർ മെട്രോ ഉപകരിക്കുമെന്ന് കരുതുന്നു. 38 ടെർമിനലുകളിലും 16 റൂട്ടുകളിലുമായി സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്ന 78 ബാറ്ററി-ഓപ്പറേറ്റഡ് ഇലക്ട്രിക് ഹൈബ്രിഡ് ബോട്ടുകൾ വഴി കൊച്ചിയിലെ 10 ദ്വീപ് സമൂഹങ്ങളെ മെയിൻ ലാന്റുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വാട്ടർ മെട്രോ സംവിധാനവും ഏഷ്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ സംയോജിത ജലഗതാഗത സംവിധാനവുമാണിത്.

Kochi Water Metro is an integrated ferry transport system serving the Greater Kochi region in Kerala, India. It is the first water metro system in India and the first integrated water transport system of this size in Asia, which connects Kochi’s 10 island communities with the mainland through a fleet of 78 battery-operated electric hybrid boats plying along 38 terminals and 16 routes spanning 76 kilometers. It is integrated with the Kochi Metro and serves as a feeder service to the suburbs along the rivers where transport accesibility is limited.

The construction work started in 2016 and it's first route between Vytilla and InfoPark was inaugurated in February 2021 by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.[4] It was officially inaugurated and opened to passengers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 April 2023. Kochi Water Metro is expected to become fully operational by 2035 with a daily commuter-count of 1.5 lakh passengers.[5] It is also described as possibly the largest electric boat metro transportation infrastructure being implemented in the world.
Kochi became India's first city to have a Water Metro Project
Kochi, Kerala has become India's first city to have a Water Metro Project after the launch of its first boat in December 2021, namely 'Muziris,' among the 23 battery-powered electric boats being manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Limited. 75+

The Kerala backwaters are a network of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast (known as the Malabar Coast) of Kerala state in southern India, as well as interconnected canals, rivers, and inlets, a labyrinthine system formed by more than 900 kilometers (560 mi) of waterways. Kochi is the largest city in the south Indian state of Kerala and the second largest along India's western coastline, after Mumbai. In Kochi's case, thanks to its location on the lower west coast of the Indian peninsula, it is less vulnerable to storm surges or cyclones compared to cities on the eastern coast of the country. The city sits within a complex estuarine system comprising Lake Vembanad and the many rivers flowing into the lake, including the Periyar and Muvattupuzha rivers.
