Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706): Fugue (Magnificat octavi toni, VIII 9) | By Rien
Today (Thursday, November 27) I came home after a long, long day on the road. I spent two times 2.5 hours driving to and from my destination — for a distance of only 45 km… November is always the busiest month of the year, and today was no exception.
After dinner, I just wanted to unwind and clear my mind. And for me, the four Magnificat fugues by Pachelbel are like a little treasure chest for moments like this. I can learn and record one of these short, one-page fugues in about 45 minutes without too much overthinking.
As a trained psychologist, I can genuinely recommend them to anyone: they force you to stay focused and fully in the moment; there’s no room for distracting thoughts. And because of their almost mathematical clarity, all the mental “dust” from the day simply disappears. They aren’t difficult to play, they only need some mild attention.
Try it!
