Is the brand new QEII 65 Ave Interchange destined for capacity issues? I take you on a driving tour of the $122 Million infrastructure project at the Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and highlight its best features—and its biggest, most costly flaws.
Officially opened on October 24, 2025, this project was designed to improve access to the airport, the City of Leduc, and the Nisku/Aerotropolis business areas. The interchange brings a beautiful new dual-lane overpass, two key roundabouts, and a dedicated cycling/pedestrian pathway over the QEII.
But the ultimate version of this interchange hasn't been built. I show you the existing single-lane bridge that remains, the single-lane merge sections, and the single-lane roundabout that will likely become a major choke point. Widening these components later will be significantly more expensive and more disruptive than doing it right the first time.
What do YOU think? Was this an economic opportunity missed for the long term? Let me know in the comments!
