Red Dead Online has evolved and changed greatly over its 3+ years of existence, and so, I feel it's time to revisit my Role Guide videos, and revise them for the year 2023.

While my original Trader Role Simple Guide video is still mostly accurate for anyone looking to get started as a Trader, the game has also changed quite a bit since then. With all the various tweaks to the game’s balancing over the years, and new content additions, the time is now to revisit the role and see how the progression has changed. Indeed, I’ve started a brand new character, and worked my way up to max rank once again to experience all the changes first hand.

So today, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Trader Role, as it exists here in 2023. At its core, the Trader Role involves you hunting an animal, bringing the carcass back to camp, Cripps breaking down the carcass into materials, and then you selling those materials by delivering them to a spot on the map. In the end, you’ll gain money, xp and role xp for your troubles. However, the speed at which this whole process can be completed, and the money and xp you’ll gain by the end of it, all depends on which animals you hunt, where on the map you set up your camp, and the amount of goods you can fit on your wagon when performing the delivery.

In this video, we’ll be looking at some simple Trader strategies that will help you reach max rank a bit quicker. How exactly do all the numbers work on the Cripps Trading Company screen? Where can you find the animals with the most material value? Which of the unlockable trader items are the most worthwhile purchases when it comes to making the trader life easier? What is the cash and xp payout for every type of wagon delivery? And finally, how does the introduction of the new Naturalist Role change the gameplay loop for the Trader? Spoiler: It completely breaks the role and makes reaching max rank an absolute joke... I'll show you how!

Like I said, the role has definitely changed since that original video, so of course I’ll take all those changes into consideration here as well, and provide a new, optimal way through the role, for all you newer players jumping into the game for the first time!
