a song that paints the stillness of nature like a beautiful, silent landscape
through the sound of the piano.
Released in the early 1980s, this folk-style piece is one of his signature works,
and among his music, it is especially cherished for its deeply poetic
and contemplative atmosphere.

수숫대 울타리 갈 바람에 떨고

황토 먼지 날리는 신작로
저녁 버스 천천히 떠나고
플라타나스 꼭대기 햇살이 남아
길 아래 개여울 물소리만 듣고

먼 바다 물결 건너 산 은사시
날 저문 산 길 설마 누가 올까
해는 산 너머 아주 져버리고

Around the bend of the mountain, on the ridge beyond,
the sun sinks away, quietly and forlorn.
Over the wide tidal flats where the continental wind drifts,
only the crimson fringe of sunset burns.

Behind the village where the reeds dance in the wind,
a couple of small birds head back to their home.
Under the old paulownia tree stands a lonely house,
its sorghum-stalk fence trembling in the passing wind.

Along the dirt road where yellow dust rises,
the evening bus slowly moves away.
Sunlight lingers on the top of the plane trees,
and only the murmur of the stream below the road remains.

Across the sea’s distant waves, the mountain aspens shimmer.
At dusk on this mountain path would anyone come?
The sun has gone completely beyond the ridge,
and the crimson fringe of sunset slowly fades.

There, upon that empty mountain, the day comes to an end,
and the crimson fringe of sunset slowly dies away.
