“Sheep and goat prices have been rewarding to producers in recent years,” says Travis Hoffman, NDSU and UMN Extension sheep specialist. “Regional sheep/goat market leaders will provide insight into the current and future outlook of small ruminant production and marketing.”
Jeremy Schafer, manager at the Central Livestock Association/Zumbrota Livestock Auction House, will provide an overview of marketing sheep and goats through Central Livestock, which is a hub of southern Minnesota small ruminant commerce. Justin Lumpkin, USDA Agricultural Market Service, and his team accurately report daily/weekly prices and provide transparency at the auction barns in South Dakota and North Dakota. Fred Krueger owns and operates a ND state-inspected harvest facility specializing in sheep and goat slaughter and fabrication and will provide insight into non-traditional and ethnic marketing options.
