With over 240 days of lockdown closures in the UK between 2020 and 2021, those working in beauty have been hard hit by the government's pendulum-swinging pandemic measures. And with so many livelihoods on the line, and so many questions yet to be answered, ELLE tracked down Chancellor ‪@RishiSunak‬ to challenge him on the issues still facing the hair, beauty and wellbeing industry.

From job losses and redundancies to social distancing measures and issues gaining access to vital grants all scuppering the industry’s efforts to bounce back, it’s now estimated beauty businesses will have made an average loss of £41,000 due to Covid-19 by the end of 2021.

We pressed Rishi Sunak to tell us what the government is really going to do to help the beauty industry thrive once again.
