US threatens Cuba to strike a deal ‘before it is too late’

Following Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro’s seizure, the US President said no more oil or money will go to Cuba, ramping up pressure on Havana to strike a deal with Washington. The Caribbean island has rejected these threats and denounced the US for its ‘criminal behavior’ in the Western Hemisphere.
Cuba's national motto is Patria o Muerte, which means Homeland or Death. While it is unclear how many Cubans live by that creed today, at least for the government supporters, nothing will persuade them to break from their Patria's one-party system. The Socialist Party has been under a US trade embargo for 66 years. It survived the loss of its Soviet benefactor in the 1990s, and now Havana has lost the support and oil supplies of Venezuela. But amid a worsening economic crisis, can the socialist state survive the ‘Donroe Doctrine’?
