PTH बढ़ने से किडनी की हालत कैसे बिगड़ती है | Why Parathyroid Hormone Levels Increase in CKD Patients
Kidney patients often need many tests to check their health, and one important test is the PTH test. PTH stands for parathyroid hormone. This hormone helps control calcium levels and keeps your bones healthy. In this video, we’ll explain what your kidneys do, why PTH is important, and how you can manage high PTH levels to keep your bones strong and stay healthy.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗧𝗛 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀?
The parathyroid glands (located near the thyroid) make a hormone called PTH. This hormone helps manage the levels of calcium and phosphorus in your body. When your kidneys aren’t working well, they can’t keep these minerals balanced. This causes PTH levels to rise, leading to a condition called secondary hyperparathyroidism—a common issue for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Kidneys do more than just filter waste—they help keep your whole body balanced. One of their key jobs is turning vitamin D into its active form. This active vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium to keep your bones strong. But when the kidneys are weak, this process slows down. As a result, your bones may become weaker. That’s why keeping your kidneys healthy also means protecting your bone health.
𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗗 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀?
In healthy people, kidneys activate the vitamin D we get from sunlight or food. But in kidney patients, this doesn’t happen properly. So, even with enough sun or calcium in your diet, your body may not absorb it well. That’s why many kidney patients need a ready-to-use form of Vitamin D, like calcitriol or calcium acetate. These are already active and can help your body right away—but only take them if your doctor recommends it.
