El Médano Walk 🌊 Tenerife’s Surfers Paradise | Beaches, Wind, Seafood & Relaxed Coastal Life

Welcome to El Médano, one of the most authentic seaside towns in southern Tenerife and a true paradise for surfers, kitesurfers and anyone looking for a relaxed coastal atmosphere.

In this walking tour, we start from the surfers’ beach, where the waves are calm but perfect for riding and kiteboarding. El Médano’s beach is unique: a mix of black volcanic sand and golden Sahara sand, shaped by wind and ocean currents. Some people are sunbathing, others are watching the surfers glide across the water — a daily ritual here.

As we walk through town, we pass surf schools, rental shops and training centres, confirming why El Médano is known as the wind sports capital of Tenerife. Today the wind is gentle, but the energy of the place is always present.

Moving towards the main bathing beach, restaurants and bars become more frequent. The smell of fresh fish fills the air. The beach is lively, well equipped and affordable, with lifeguards, showers and public facilities, making it ideal for families and relaxed beach days.

Behind the town, a traditional Canarian market is taking place, with local fruit, vegetables and regional products sold directly by residents. Posters around the streets announce events and festivals — proof that El Médano is a small town with a big social life.

Entering the narrow streets, we reach the heart of El Médano’s seafood scene: simple fish restaurants, ocean views and authentic flavours. It’s hard not to get hungry here.

The walk ends along a quieter coastal path, away from the crowd. Small beaches, the sound of waves, simple hotels and a peaceful atmosphere — a perfect place to slow down and just listen to the ocean.
