What Waking Up at 4 AM for a Group Ride Looks Like (It's Pure Chaos)

The Centennial Park Morning Chop, which has become a non-negotiable staple in my weekly training program. This ride rolls out every Thursday, bright and early when the park is empty and it is just cyclists out on the road. This is perfect for a fast, safe session.

This ride is an hour plus of pure, unrelenting pace. It is one of Sydney's fastest group rides and holds absolutely no prisoners. I am hitting 50 W normalised for over an hour weekly, and my coach told me this week I was mere minutes away from crushing my hour power Personal Best!

I used to do this ride and get dropped every single week. But now, it is a constant battle where the pace never drops. It never ceases to amaze me. There is always someone making an attack or trying to get off the front, forcing the group to either weld it together or push hard to close it down. Sometimes, the breakaway sticks.

I love the Chop rides, so here is another one. This morning was pure cat and mouse action! With just two laps to go, I made a bold move and attacked off the front.

I get away, but can I hold it against the pace of the group?
