Here’s a lesson on dorian scales. These have a darker, haunting feel.
These are made by starting on the second degree of a major scale. So if you take D major and start on the second degree (D1 which is E) you get an E dorian scale. It’s magic! I still find it amazing that you can create this whole other sound with the same 7 notes by starting and ending on a different note. It’s like you center the scale differently.
E dorian
D1-2-3-A0-1-2-3-E0
D dorian
D0-1-L2-3-A0-1-L2-3
A dorian
A0-1-L2-3-E0-1-L2-3
G1-2-3-D0-1-2-3-A0

Growling Old Man And Woman:
Just use the tabs to get going, don't rely on it or continue to read it once you've got the tune...
I made some “Learning Chunks” on the FiddleHed site to help you do this. These focused exercises contain sheet music, tabs and mp3 snippets to guide you on each step of your fiddle journey.
These and all new lesson pages can be viewed for one week after publication with a FREE trial membership. Check it out here: https://fiddlehed.com
And after you sign up, I’ll also send you a mini-course of lessons specially designed for your skill level.
Alrighty. Play every day, have fun 😀 and thanks for making music 🙏
Now, go fiddle with it...
