The newest bulk carrier on the Great Lakes, the Algoma Endeavour, passes under the Clarence Street Bridge, heading upbound in the Welland Canal. After dropping off her cargo of canola seed in Hamilton the previous day, the Endeavour was running empty on her way to Thunder Bay.
Launched in 2025, the 740' Endeavour is one of only 3 Algoma Equinox class vessels that weren't built in China, rather she was built at the 3. Maj shipyard, located in Rijeka, Croatia. The other two 3. Maj builds were the smaller 650 footers Algoma Innovator and Algoma Intrepid. The Endeavour is the newest and the last of the 12 Equinox Class vessels ordered by the Algoma Central corporation.
The Clarence Street Bridge, also known as Welland Canal Bridge 21 was built between 1927 and 1929 utilizing Parker through truss construction. The nearly century old bridge is one of only 3 vertical lift bridges in use on the Welland Canal. The other bridges are all of the jackknife style.
Recorded on December 1st, 2025.
