The PhD Project and The Equity Equation held a discussion on Hybrid work and the Impact on DEI.
Nearly two and a half years into the pandemic, organizations have started enticing employees with hybrid work - the ability to work from home with limited days in the office. However, for some, working from home provided the opportunity for increased work-life balance, more flexibility in work schedules, and increased psychological safety. According to a recent McKinsey study, nearly 5 out of 5 employees who "worked in hybrid models over the past two years prefer retaining them going forward". Yet, other dynamics, such as proximity bias, are now coming into play.
As hybrid models become the 'new normal', is there an impact on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts? If so, what has it been? If not, is this a missed opportunity? Two PhD Project members will weigh in on this topic:
