An afternoon stroll to Riccarton Junction & Wills Bothy..
Situated in the county of Roxburghshire, in the Scottish Borders, Riccarton Junction was a railway village and station on the former North British Railway Edinburgh – Carlisle line known as the “Waverley Route” . In 1963 the “Beeching Report” proposed closure of the “Waverley Route”. Sadly, the “Waverley Route”, including all stations between Edinburgh and Carlisle, was closed on 6th January 1969 thus marking the end of an era for this once busy railway outpost.
Wills Bothy situated at Leysburnfoot , the bothy was restored by this friends in this memory. William Ramsbotham 1967 - 1993 was an athlete, mountaineer and scholar who loved life this lifestyle was simple..but rich in things that mattered, an inspiration to all who knew him. Sadly he died in a climbing accident at the young age of 26.
