On June 28, 2025, I hiked up Mount Aso.
Starting from the peak, I trekked through Sunasenri and continued on to Mt. Nangake, Mt. Nakadake, and finally Mt. Takadake. The mountains were set against a summery blue sky, with a breathtaking sea of clouds appearing and disappearing in the distance. It felt like I had wandered into another world as I took in the spectacular scenery of Mount Aso.
My camera battery died, so I had to quickly switch to my smartphone to take pictures from Mt. Takadake. I completed the descent safely without any issues.
Visiting the crater was a unique experience, as we encountered a dangerously high concentration of volcanic gas. Afterwards, I washed off the sweat at Bōchū Onsen, bought some souvenirs at the Roadside Station Aso, and headed home with a bento box from Hirai.
