Due to technical difficulties, the opening goal to BWC Academy vs Edge School was lost/unavailable. The first goal of this contest was scored by Edge School's Max Ranseth off a jam play in close. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Friday’s Feature Game lived up to the hype and then some as the U15 Prep showcase gets under way in Calgary, AB. It was goals galore to open the first period with each team chipping back and forth. Ellis Martschuk (1G, 1A) would deliver the go ahead goal for Edge in the final minutes of the opening frame, going backhand on an abbreviated breakaway down the right hand side. Easton Perzylo (1G, 1A) would continue to add to Edge’s tally early in the second, garnering their first two goal lead of the match. Kenzo Gibson would stop the bleeding of a jam play in front, bringing BWC Academy back to within one. However, Remy Koch (2G) would score a highlight reel goal, cutting around a handful of BWC Academy defenders before burying one upstairs to restore Edge’s two goal spread. The goals would keep coming through the rest of the second, with Logan Henry (2G, 2A) burying the last goal to cut Edge’s lead to one before the horn sounded. The action would continue to erupt in the third after Jayden Maschke’s 10th of the season once again built up a two goal lead for the home side. BWC Academy would find their stride after surrendering the seventh goal as Cohen Baker (2G, 1A) and Henry would strike under two minutes apart, once on the powerplay and once shorthanded to once again tie the contest. Just under two minutes later, Koch would wire home his second of the afternoon, giving Edge the lead with under five minutes to spare. BWC Academy would dig deep in the finals minutes, resulting in yet another game tying goal off the stick of Baker to make things 8-8 heading into overtime. A couple key saves from Delano Pockar (30/38) and Bentley Edgar (42/50) would force things into a shootout. Liam Bordt and George Matheos would each strike for their respective teams as the first shooters, leaving this shootout tied through three rounds. Gibson was up to bat in the fourth round, making no mistake, rifling one far side to put the pressure on Edge. Edgar would stone Edge’s final shooter, capping off a remarkable comeback in one of the most fierce battles we’ve seen all season.
