The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority’s (NVTA) Transportation Technology Strategic Plan (TTSP) includes nine roles that NVTA can undertake in proactively preparing for innovation. One of these is a role for staff to conduct outreach and education. With this in mind, NVTA staff are conducting a series of virtual InNoVAtion Lunch and Learns, designed to provide opportunities for pragmatic information exchange about technologies or innovations that are feasible immediately or in the near future (1-5 years.) Jeff Bruenig, program manager for Advanced Air Mobility and Uncrewed Aircraft Systems at MITRE provided an overview of how AAM is poised to transform regional mobility. His presentation highlighted Virginia’s AAM strategy, potential applications in Northern Virginia, and the importance of infrastructure readiness, workforce development, and community engagement. The session also explored how AAM can integrate into Northern Virginia’s robust multimodal network, aligning with NVTA’s core values of equity, safety, and sustainability.
