On the feast of Saint Juan Diego, we celebrate the humble Aztec Indian chosen by Our Lady to be her messenger to the world! In 1531, on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to this simple and pious man, asking him to go to the bishop and request the construction of a church. Despite doubts and difficulties, Juan Diego's perseverance and the miracle of the roses and the image imprinted on his tilma (cloak) convinced the bishop and gave rise to one of the greatest Marian devotions in history.
