Cerebral Palsy Affected Children with Crouch Gait : Outcome After SEMLS | Trishla Foundation

Crouching is a very common presentation in diplegic spastic cerebral palsy. Initially, most of the children affected with cerebral palsy start walking on the tip of their toes but with time, their gait pattern may change into crouch gait. Crouch gait develops because of multiple factors like overstretched gastrocsoleus, tight knee flexor, planovalgus feet & ext tibial torsion.

Crouching should be prevented by good therapy and judicious use of a brace, hamstring spasticity by botulinum toxin but fixed contracture & torsion can only be managed by surgical intervention. Post-surgical therapy & proper brace should be continued for a long duration to prevent recurrence and increase in deformity.

She has also been the ex-program coordinator of the MPH program at the Faculty of Health Sciences, SHIATS, for 13 years.
