Hyperextension of the knee is a very difficult problem in cerebral palsy. it should be recognized & managed at the earliest and managed so that uncorrectable problems can be resolved. it occurs because of many factors which include Equinus contracture, hamstring over-lengthening, weakness of the hamstring, and contracture of the rectus femoris. At an early age it can be beautifully managed by therapy, botulinum toxin, and a brace, and at a later age requires surgery.
