Our first Kyoto day trip greeted us with ☔️ rain and massive tourist crowds – a true test of over-tourism in Japan!
Armed with our JR Kansai Pass 🚄 (a 2-day pass perfect for Kansai day trips), we squeezed under one umbrella and headed out to explore Kyoto’s iconic sights.

🦊 Fushimi Inari Shrine (Kyoto’s Famous Fox Shrine)
We revisited the thousands of iconic red torii gates and fox statues (kitsune), the messengers of Inari. Even in the rain, the atmosphere was magical 🌿. We discovered hidden bamboo groves, German street art stickers (!), and bought a fox-shaped omikuji for our fortune. 🍀 Plus, we treated ourselves to a unique soy bean powder ice cream at the top. 🍦

🍱 Nishiki Market – Kyoto’s Bustling Food Street
Our second stop was the Nishiki Market, Kyoto’s famous “kitchen,” packed with food stalls, bento boxes, and local snacks. While it was incredibly crowded, we still enjoyed the lively atmosphere and later escaped to a quiet ramen shop nearby for a peaceful meal. 🍜

🛍️ Kyoto Shopping Finds & Gachapon Adventures
We wrapped up our day with some Kyoto shopping – exploring quirky stores like Village Vanguard and hunting for rare gachapon figures. After my husband spotted a Tower of the Sun capsule toy (my favorite!), I finally got my hands on one. 🏯🎁
