Long drives are the result of power production. Sometimes increasing power production requires less effort.
It’s just like a sprinter reaching top end running speed in a 100-meter race. Using the same amount of muscular effort developed out of the blocks would slow top end running speed. Top end speed is a more of a reflexive response to the forces of sprinting, not forceful pushes from the lower body. Like a rubber ball bouncing down the track.
The golf swing is like a sprint. Except the reflexive response in a golf swing is more like a catapult then a bouncing ball.
