Off Track in Scotts Valley explores the curious absence of railroads in Scotts Valley, California presented by Derek R. Whaley, PhD.
Derek Whaley, has had a long association with the San Lorenzo Valley Museum. From 2010 to 2015 he volunteered at the Museum cataloging and re-organizing the Museum’s photograph collection.
He holds a doctorate of philosophy in history from the University of Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand.
Derek is a historian and librarian. He has worked at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and The Tech Museum of Innovation, and also volunteered on the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History Publications Committee. He is currently a senior research librarian for Auckland Libraries.
Derek is well-known for his Santa Cruz Trains books and website. He began researching Santa Cruz County history in 2011 and continues to do so from his home in Aotearoa the Maori name for New Zealand.
