I'll review and rate this Gemini BA 747-400 flaps down model in 10 categories.
This batch of BA 747-400 comes with Gemini’s standard black box packaging with a logo to highlight it’s a flaps down edition. It’s very neat and safe. So, I'll give a 9 for packaging. This model comes with a standard display stand and a set of removable landing gear, plus an extended version of the nose gear to depict the mode before touchdown. That’s what BBOX’s Cathay Pacific flaps down models don’t offer. Yet, one of the gear covers doesn’t fit the hole perfectly. I'll give accessories a 9.
There’s no question that this is the best 747 mould available in the market. The iconic features of the 747 from the cockpit section, down to the nose, is almost perfect on this model. Honestly, it's really hard to find any flaws with it. This mould is regarded by many as the best because it is seamless around the wing and the belly. Without a doubt, this Gemini mould is superior to its main competitor Inflight200's or J Fox’s 747 moulds. The vertical stabilizer and the wings are very finely shaped. There are no errors or issues noted for this model. So, I'll give the mould a 10 out of 10.
These 2 pairs of RB211 engines are very finely made. When we unboxed Gemini’s Qantas 747 flaps down in another video, we found the angle of its engine number 2’s pylon tiles a bit downward. There’s no such issue on this plane. So, I'll give this BA a 9 for the engines.
The build of this model is very good. All angles and positions are correct. There is no visible gap at the attachments and joints. I'll give a 9 for build.
It's very easy to put on the landing gear. The tightness of the gear leg joints are just perfect. So, you can put the gear in a very good looking tilt position. The pre-landing extended nose gear looks very cool. I'll give a 9 for undercarriage.
The greatest selling point of this model is its flaps down configuration. All the flaps and slats are fully set for landing. The track fairings are very refined. All the major features are accurately depicted. The APU exhaust is exceptionally detailed. The nose gear also features two gems that signify the landing lights. But if we compare it with the BBOX Cathay 747 we unboxed in another video, this BA’s landing lights on the wings are not made of inserted gems. And the small joint area here is not painted in silver either. So, it’s less impressive than the Cathay one. I'll give details an 8.
This model got all the colours correct. It has very detailed decals, especially this special BA Centennial logo. So, what’s the problem with the livery? I guess most hard core BA fans can tell you immediately: the centerline divides the grey upper body and the dark blue belly is obviously too high on this model. In the real planes, the division actually lies right at the centerline of the nose cone. Now take a look again. Do you feel the dark blue belly is too thick now? Because of this error, I'll only give livery an 8.
The problem with the dark blue belly has actually resulted in another printing error: the positions of all the windows and doors on the main cabin are too high. Take a look at L2 and R2 doors and check their distance with the wing attachment. And you’ll see the doors are printed higher than where they should be. One good thing is unlike the Qantas 744, the cockpit window decal of this BA is at a perfect position. So, I’ll only give painting a 7.
This first batch of BA Landor flaps down was a crazy sell-out when it was released in 2020. The resell prices skyrocketed when the real plane was forced to retire earlier than planned. So, I'll give a 9 for value.
I'll give this BA Landor flaps down a total of 87 points in my ARAIG Index.
