In this lecture, we explore a deeply moving narration that highlights trust, humanity, and divine destiny during the Battle of Badr. Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Awf (RA) narrated that he had made a written agreement with Umayyah bin Khalaf ,that each would protect the other’s family and wealth in their respective cities, Makkah and Madinah.
When Abdur Rahman (RA) wrote his name on the agreement, Umayyah objected, saying, “I do not know anyone named ‘Rahman’,” and insisted he write “Abd Amr” instead.and Abdur Rahman agreed for the sake of peace.
Later, on the day of Badr, while everyone rested, Abdur Rahman (RA) took Umayyah with him towards a hill to protect him , but Hazrat Bilal (RA) saw Umayyah, recognized him, and cried out that he was the enemy who tortured him in Makkah. The situation turned quickly, leading to Umayyah’s death . A turning point that showed Allah’s justice and the end of cruelty.
