My 2004 bounder roof is 21 years old, but still in pretty good shape. but I figure it’s time to reseal it.
After reviewing several products on the market, I’ve have chosen the RV roof man’s forever coat and forever lap sealant.
First thing to do is to remove the solar panels, and clean all the remaining glue and lap sealant.
I used Kent automotive aerosol degreaser. This stuff is awesome. Sprayed it on, what a few seconds and the glue and sealant from the eternal bond tape comes right off.
I filled all the remaining holes from the solar panel screws with silicone.
I waited 24 hours and then started power washing the roof.
The next step is to use a green frog tape that mask off the RV to fully encapsulate the entire roof with the forever coat. Yes, I taped about one inch pass the front and back brackets holding the front and rear caps.
mix the product for a good minute or two. then it’s ready to go. I cut in all the sides and around the skylight and air conditioners. Make sure you use a lint free roller.
After everything was cut, now just roll it on nice and thick. Wait 24 hours and then applies a next coat. After the second coat is completely dry then remove the tape.
When it came time to reinstall the solar panels. This time is i use a completely different bracket. Not only does this bracket raises the solar panel about an inch higher, it also gave me access underneath the panel to the wires or even to add sealant all around the bracket with ease, just by removing two bolts.
Even replacing a panel by removing four bolts. I also used 1 1/2-inch metal roofing screws along with the RV roof mans this forever lap sealant.
All the panels were wired in series and wires were secured to the roof. It should be good for another 20 years for me or the next owner.
