PRE ARRIVAL - Dumpster Fire - *EXPLOSIONS* Lehi Fire Department Responds to Dumpster Fire 07/24/24

On July 24th, 2024, Lehi Fire Department Engine 83 and Medic Ambulance 83 responded to a working dumpster fire in west Lehi.

July 24th is a popular day to discharge fireworks in Utah because of a holiday known as Pioneer Day. Similar to the 4th of July, many fireworks are lit into the full night sky. However, around 22:07, a small flame caught my eye in a commercial dumpster. The fire was small, but didn't stay that way for long. While I was on the phone with 911, others began to record and watch the fire from a distance to wait for responders to arrive. Just a few seconds later, a large volume of fireworks exploded inside the dumpster, spewing fireballs across the street. While no exposures caught fire, the explosions did threaten them, such as a home under construction near by. The fire continued to grow even after Lehi Police arrived just a short time after. Soon enough, the fire department came to fully extinguish and smother this fire.

I am unaware of any injuries that may have been caused from this fire.

I am also unaware of what exactly caused the fire, but it is easy to assume what may have happened. That being, of course, improperly discarded fireworks.
