First Exhibition in Korea! Nuri visits Rwandan Contemporary Art Exhibition

Located in central-eastern Africa, Rwanda is a country that experienced the painful history of genocide in 1994. Approximately one million citizens lost their lives and three million became refugees fleeing to neighboring countries. However, quickly finding stability, Rwanda is achieving dynamic economic growth. “Diplomat Talks - Nuri's Day of Diplomacy,” is a series showing Nuri’s on-the-ground coverage of diplomacy. This week, Nuri visited a special exhibition and met Ambassador Nkubito BAKURAMUTSA, the new Rwandan ambassador to Seoul. At the Rwandan contemporary art exhibition held for the first time in Korea, Nuri admired works that expressed Rwanda's painful history in various ways. Meanwhile, we will also look at the diplomatic history of Korea and Rwanda, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and also think about future cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.

나피디, 한국 최초로 열린 르완다 현대 미술 전시회에 가다

아프리카 중동부에 위치한 르완다는 1994년 집단학살이라는 아픈 역사를 겪은 나라다. 당시 약 100만명의 시민이 목숨을 잃었고 300만명의 난민이 이웃 국가로 피난을 떠났다. 그러나 이후 빠르게 안정을 찾은 르완다는 역동적으로 경제 성장을 이뤄내고 있다. 나누리 피디가 발로 뛰며 알아본 다양한 외교가 소식을 전하는 ‘디플로맷 토크 – 나누리 피디의 매우 외교적인 하루’. 이번 주에는 나피디가 아주 특별한 전시회에서 바쿠라무사 은쿠비토 신임 주한 르완다 대사를 만났다. 한국에서 처음으로 열린 르완다 현대 미술 전시회에서 나피디는 르완다의 아픈 역사를 다채로운 방식으로 표현한 작품들을 감상했다. 한편, 올해 수교 60주년을 맞은 한국과 르완다의 외교사를 살펴보고 양국의 향후 협력과 교류에 대해서도 함께 생각해본다.
