Tanzanian History 101 with the ambassador!

April 26 is an important national holiday for Tanzania. It is the day that celebrates the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, which became one nation in 1964. Although two countries with different historical backgrounds, tribes and religions came together, Tanzania is still considered one of the most peaceful countries maintaining coexistence on the African continent. This was possible thanks to the tireless efforts of Tanzania’s father of the nation and former president Julius Nyerere. Diplomat Talks - Nuri's Day of Diplomacy shows Nuri’s on-the-ground coverage of diplomacy, and how Korea and other countries are engaging with each other. This week, Nuri hears about Tanzania’s founding history from the Tanzanian ambassador to Seoul. She also takes a look at the relationship between Korea and Tanzania, the areas of collaboration such as healthcare, rural development and infrastructure construction, and looks ahead to future cooperation.

4월 26일은 탄자니아의 중요한 국경일 중 하나다. 1964년 탕가니아와 잔지바르가 합병되면서 탄자니아라는 하나의 국가가 탄생한 날이기 때문이다. 다른 역사적 배경을 가진 2개의 나라가 합쳐졌고 여러 부족과 종교가 한데 섞였지만 그럼에도 탄자니아는 아프리카에서 비교적 평화로운 공존을 유지하는 나라로 평가받는다. 이렇게 될 수 있었던 데에는 탄자니아의 국부로 불리는 줄리어스 니에레레 전 대통령의 부단한 노력이 있었다. 나누리 피디가 발로 뛰며 알아본 다양한 외교가 소식을 전하는 ‘디플로맷 토크 – 나누리 피디의 매우 외교적인 하루’. 이번 주에는 나피디가 주한 탄자니아 대사로부터 탄자니아 건국 역사에 대해 들어본다. 또한 보건, 농어촌개발, 인프라 건설 등 다양한 분야에서 협력하고 있는 한국과 탄자니아의 관계를 살펴보고 향후 협력 방안을 전망해본다.
