The United States has warned Canada that altering its planned purchase of 88 F-35 fighter jets could force changes to the NORAD air defence agreement. U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra said Washington would fill any security gaps, potentially increasing American operations in Canadian airspace. Canada agreed to the deal in 2022, but rising costs—now estimated at $27.7 billion—have triggered a review ordered by Prime Minister Mark Carney.
