This is a new Adderbury dance. Morris dancing was revived in Adderbury in 1974 and by the 1980s the side were giving instructional to other sides. Via an indirect route the style made its way to Cardiff and three Adderbury dances were added to Cardiff's repertoire (with "subtle Cardiffian adjustment"). Thus was born new Adderbury. Cardiff have since expanded the range of new Adderbury dances extensively but The Bell was one of the three original dances that underwent only those subtle adjustments.
This was the first dance created by the revival Adderbury Morris Men in 1974/5. The tune for The Bell is called 'The Minstrel Boy' and is from the Adderbury church bells (possibly Thursdays). But this is not the origin for the name of the dance, for that you must look to the 'spiritual home' of Adderbury Morris Men; the Bell Inn in the Adderbury High Street.
